History:

The Department of Social Work was established in the year 1967-68 under the able guidance of Dr. S.P. Mythili, Head, Department of Psychology. Mrs. K. Venkayamma (1968-2001), Mrs. P.V. Rajalakshmi (1979-84) and Dr. K. Mahadevamma (1988 to 2024) were appointed for the department of Social Work. Two Contract Lecturers; Dr. G. Padmaja (2002 to till date) and Dr. K. Kokila (2003 to till date) are working in the department. At present the students strength of the department is 63. The faculty of the department are actively involved in teaching, research and extension activities At present Dr. S. Jayasree lecturer in Commerce is the Head of the department of Social Work.

Vision:

  • The vision of Social Work Course is to to build a cadre of young, competent professionals having a global perspective and a strong value base of compassion, personal integrity, moderation, tolerance and self-respect.

Mission:

  • The program mission of social work is to prepare future social work professionals to stand in the way of social equity and justice, and to foster social work education, practice, and research that strengthen and expand the opportunities resources, and capabilities of all persons to achieve their full potential and well-being.

Content of the Course:

The basic concepts, principles, methods, values and ethics and practice methods of social work profession are taught. The knowledge of social systems and behavioral sciences are taught along with the issues of women and development. The field work component occupies a very important place within the social work practice. Various activities are conducted in the field work in the process of integrating the theory to the practice.

Activities:

1) Field Visits

As a part of curriculum, the students of social work are involved in field work activities as per the prescribed time table. The students are made to visit Social Welfare Organizations in Tirupati and provide knowledge regarding it’s functioning and the role of the social worker in the organization. The students are made to visit the community and involve in Case Work, Group Work and Community Organization activities.

2) Student Seminars

The students are encouraged to deliver seminars and attend conferences to develop understanding on the subject and develop the communication skill.

Results:

The pass percentage of the Department of Social Work is 100% in S.V. university examinations for each semester in every academic year.

Placements:

The students of Social Work are pursuing higher education in MSW Course and some of them are acquiring jobs in NGO’s in and near by Tirupati. They are also been selected in the campus drives conducted in the college.

4) Co-curricular / Extra curricular:

The students of Social Work actively participates in co-curricular like Elocution competitions, Quiz and received prizes. The students are also active in extracurricular activities such as NSS, NCC, Games & others etc.

5) Collaborations / MOU:

The Department of Social Work is having MOU’s with People’s Action for Social Service(PASS), Tirupati, Parent’s Association for Special Needs Children(Sreesh Mandir), Tirupati, College of Nursing, SVIMS University, Tirupati. As a part of MOU, the department collaborates with the organizations for training the students.

6) ICT Tools:

DIGITAL CLASS ROOMS FOR STUDENTS

The students are taught regular classes in Digital Mode to gain better understanding of the subject.

WORLD SOCIAL WORK DAY

Every Year, In the March, third week of Tuesday, World Social Work Day is celebrated with a new theme every year in promoting the professionalism of Social Work. Every year, based on the theme, the students were encouraged to draw posters, conduct rallies and organize exhibitions.
