Department of Chemistry

History:

The Chemistry Department of Sri Padmavathi Women’s College, TTD, Tirupati has established in the year 1952. Degree course was started in 1961. It is the one of the biggest department in the college working under the affiliation of S.V. University, Tirupati. The first founder head was Professor T.Sarada. After her Mrs. D. Ramakrishnamma, M.Sc Mrs.V.Syamala M.S, Dr.M.Sarada M.Sc., Ph.D, Mrs.M.Subbarathnamma M.Sc, Dr.M.Radhamma M.Sc., Ph.D, Dr.R.S.Ramadevi M.A., M.Sc., B.Ed., Ph.D, Dr.P.GnanaKumari M.sc., M.Phil., Ph.D, Dr.A Komalamma M.sc., Ph.D headed the department one after the other.

The department offers 6 undergraduate programmes in Chemistry as B.Sc. (M.P.C, ZPC, ZBC (EM & TM), CBCN, and BTZC) and one PG course (M.Sc Organic chemistry) in 2007. Presently, B.Sc. Program Honours (Chemistry) course is offered to students by the department under the affiliation of S.V.University, Tirupati.

At Present Dr.Y.Suneetha is the Head of the Department and other faculty members include Dr.K.Vasudha, Dr.C.Divya vani, Smt.T.Vijaya, Dr.C.Sridevi, Dr.P.Padmavathi, Dr.P.Yamini. All faculty members now working are highly qualified, talented, experienced and committed to their duties. The faculty members lay emphasis on inclusion of modern teaching technologies viz. LCDs, virtual models, videoes and Practical demonstration.

Two labs are well equipped with glassware, instruments & chemicals for conducting practicals for UG. nearly 800 students from opted for B.Sc., chemistry subject, besides this it has huge departmental library having 870 books. Recent reputed e-journals are readily available in the chemistry department for research purpose.

Department is conducting various knowledge enriching programme like Student Seminars, workshops, Quiz programme, Group discussions, Elocution etc. Every year the department result exhibits between 95-100%. The students are encouraged to pursue higher education, internships, field visits and projects. Many of our students got selected in various universities for PG programmes.
