History:

The department of social anthropology was introduced in the year 2008 byDr.C.Swarajya Lakshmi, then principal of SPW Degree college, Tirupati.

Vision:

  • Social anthropology is the study of human society, social institutions, culture, and kinship bonds in their most elementary form. Besides being useful for the understanding of present human history as well as the nature of social institutions.

Mission:

  • Social anthropology confronts the challenges and understanding cultural and social variation in time and space it does this via a holistic approach that draws from and contributes to a variety of knowledge and traditions.

Objectives:

  • Students will demonstrate an ability to respect other cultures without abandoning their own points a view.
  • Students will be able to explain and apply ethnographic ethics.
  • Students will understand major anthropological theories and be able to use them effectively to interpret and analysis ethnographic material.

Program Associated with the Department:

The Department offers under graduate programmes in social anthropology.

  • BA, history, psychology, social anthropology [EM] & [TM] theDepartment under the affiliation of S V University Tirupati.

At present Smt. Dr.A.MalleswariDevi are the Head of the Department and thefaculty member Dr.C.Aruna kumari. Nowworking is highly qualified, talented,experienced and committed to their duties.The faculty members lay emphasis on inclusion of modern teaching.

Students Strength:

Nearly 22 students have opted for BA Social Anthropology subject besides this it had huge departmental library having 20 books.

Department is conducting various knowledge Enriching programmer like student seminars, quiz programmes, group discussions, Elocution etc.

Every year the department result exhibits 100 %.The students are encouraged to pursue higher education, internships, field visits and Projects. Many of our students got selected in various universities for PG programmes.
