Department of Physics

About:

The department of Physics is one of the earliest departments in Sri Padmavathi Women’s Degree & PG College, TTD, Tirupati, established in 1952 with 4 students. At present there are about 200 students. The department is offering B. Sc Physics combination and B. Sc Honours in Physics courses, under UG programme, also has PG programme in Physics from 2009 to 2020 affiliated to Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati. In addition to Curriculum, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities are encouraged for students in the department. The faculty members in the department are well qualified and committed to motivate and stimulate our young Physics aspirants to develop their knowledge and discipline. Graduates of this Department are distinctively placed in reputed institutions and organizations.

  • The physics department is committed to impart quality education both in theoretical as well as experimental physics with special emphasis on ‘learning by doing’ for socio-economic growth.

  • To motivate students towards research in Physics as well as in interdisciplinary areas.
  • To encourage students and staff through collaboration with researchers of other reputed academic institutions of India.

Introduced Add on Course

The Department introduced Add on Course entitled "MATERIAL SCIENCE" and the convener of the course is Dr. J. Radha Krishna.

Guest Lecture (Nationalism of Sri Arabindo)

The department of Physics arranged a guest lecture on “Nationalism of Sri Arabindo” on 5th July 2022. Sri Mulugu Srinivas, Chairman of Sri Arabindo Society, AP & Telengana was the speaker of the programme. The event was organised to commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversory of Sri Arabindo throughout the world and the central & State Government. His speech on motivating the students towards spirituality through simple techniques.

Global Science for Global Wellbeing

A guest lecture was organised on the eve of National Science day on 28-2-2023 at 11 am in the Rajeswari Murthy Seminar Hall. Dr. Murali Krishna , Principal S.V. Ayurvedic College, TTD, Tirupati was the Resource person for the Programme. He addressed the gathering on the topic “Global Science for Global Wellbeing” Staff & Students attended and make the Program grand Success.

Workshop

Final attainment of COs & POs

Organised a workshop on 9th September 2022. The main theme of the work shop was “How to find & create the Final Attainment of COs & POs for all the semesters”. The workshop started by 11 am in the Room no. 201-Physics Gallery. She used the ICT tools viz. the LCD projector in the room to explain the topic. First she explained the basics of creating and writing the techniques to the CO, PO attainment of each subject in each semester. Finally she vividly explained for all the 6 semester subjects and how to draw the graphs for the attainment of CO & POs. All the Lecturers in the college who are made in- charge of this work attended the work shop. The workshop went on well in two sessions i.e. morning & evening. Nearly 25 members from all the departments of the college , participated in the workshop.

Science Demonstration Lecture (COLD SHOW) with Liquid Nitrogen

The Department of Physics in collaboration with Regional Science Center, Tirupati, organized a work shop on the theme of “Science Demonstration Lecture (COLD SHOW) with Liquid Nitrogen” on 3rd Feb. 2023. I & II B.Sc., Physics Students of MPC MPE, MPCs & ZPC were participated enthusiastically in this workshop. Mr. N. T. Purushothama, Senior Educational Officer, Regional Science Center, Tirupati was the resource person for this programme. He demonstrated the experiments on liquid Nitrogen in an interesting & beautiful way. and he interacted with the students and clarified their doubts.

Online Conference - Pure Earth Foundation

The Pure Earth Foundation, Hyderabad organized the 5th Pure Earth Environment conference on 2022 (NOV) on the focal theme of Environment and Water on 26th November 2022 through online. For this 30 students ( BA, BSc, B.Com) from S.P.W. Degree & PG College were registered and presented the paper through online and their papers were published in proceedings of 5th Pure Earth Environment conference 2022 (NOV).

V. Hemalatha awarded second prize on the topic of “Contamination of water and health hazards”. M. Roshnavi & T. Venkata Siva Jyoshna were awarded third Prizes on the concepts of “Waste Water Management & STP’s” and Hydro Power and Energy respectively. The Pure Earth Foundation rewared Rs. 750/- for second prize winnerand Rs. 625/- each for third prize winners. Rs. 500/- was rewared for all paper presentors. Certificate and book of proceedings were distributed to students on January 26th 2023. Department of Physics HoD & Staff lead this programme to motivate the students.

Summer Research Fellowship Program (Internship)

For the academic year 2021-22, the dept. of Physics arranged a Summer Research Project Programme for B.Sc. Final Year students. Eleven students were selected for the project and the duration of the programme is one month i.e. from 01-6-2022 to 30-6-2022. Role - Play:

The National Science Day was Organized by Science Association, SPW Degree & PG College on 28th February 2023. In honour of this occasion I B.Sc. Physics (MPC, MPE & MPCs) Students played a Sci-Play on the Theme of “Global Science for Global Wellbeing”. The students who enacted in the play emphasised that all branches of Sciences have their own importance and are interrelated with each other.

Science Exhibition

The Department of Physics, S.P.W. Degree & P.G. College, TTD, Tirupati has organized a Science Exhibition on 28-02-2023 in connection with National Science Day. The exhibits like, clap switch, Android Based Home Automation System, Speed Controlling DC Motor, Single Seven Segment Display Module(0-9) & Single Seven Segment Display Module(a-h) were presented by the students of Physics and were appreciated by the chief guest Dr. P. Murali Krishna.

Release of Physics Calendar

The Department of Physics launched the department Physics Calendar on the National Science day i.e. 28th February 2023. 3rd B.Sc. MPCs Physics students took great pains in designing and preparing the blue print of the calendar The calendar was released by the Chief guest of the function Dr. P. Murali Krishna, Principal S.V. Ayurvedic College, TTD Tirupati. Dr. K. Mahadevamma, Principal, SPWDC , the HOD of Physics Dr. C. Umadevi and other faculty members joined in releasing the calendar along with the students.

January 2023 - Physical Quantities (CGS Units), February - Physical Quantities (SI Units), March -Physical Constants, April - Symbols – Electronic circuits, May - Basic Inventions, June - Formulas, July – Basic Laws in Physics, August – List of ISRO Chairpersons, September - ISRO Satellite launching data, October -Effects in Physics, November - Electronic configuration of elements, December - Nobel Prize winners. It is effectively attracted all the viewers.

The Dept. of Physics Created a Youtube Channel on 13th December 2021.
