Sri Padmavathi Womens Degree and PG College, Tirupati was established by the Tirumala Tirupati Devastanams in 1952 to serve the educational needs of women students of Tirupati and its surrounding areas. It started functioning from 2nd July 1952 as a second grade college (Offering Intermediate courses only) under affiliation to Madras University. With the formation of Andhra State, the college was affiliated to Andhra University in 1954. Consequently to the founding of Sri Venkateswara University, the college was brought under affiliation to S.V. University and upgraded to a Degree college in 1956. It continued to be a composite college offering PUC/Intermediate and Degree courses until it was bifurcated into S.P.W. Degree College and S.P.W. Junior College in 1995. The Junior college subsequently moved its own campus.

The college which had eight teachers and 35 students at the time of its inauguration on 11-08-1952 has over these years emerged as a premier women’s institution in Andhra Pradesh with about 42 faculty members on regular basis and 48 members on contract basis offering instruction in as many as twenty five subjects of study to more than 2500 students. It offers 3 years Degree courses in B.A, B.Com & B.Sc. From 2023-2024, anchoring with the NEP 2020, the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education has rolled out the 4-year UG Honours. The 4-year UG Degree Programmes is a shift with metamorphic changes from the conventional 3-year degree programme.

The Golden Jubilee celebrations began on the founder’s day on 11 th August 2001 and continued with a chain of activities. The final celebrations were inaugurated by Sri P.Chalapathi Rao Chairman TTD Trust Board, on 9th August 2002. We are very fortunate to have our Honorable Chief Minister Sri Nara Chandrababu Naidu Garu as the Chief Guest of the valedictory on 14th September 2002. With the kind encouragement of the TTD management, we have graduate courses in Organic Chemistry and Commerce from 2007-2008, English from 2008-2009, Physics from 2009-2010 and Bio-Technology from 2010-2011, affiliated to S.V. University with the permission of APSCHE. The TTD management has constructed P.G. Block of 3 floors with classrooms, seminar hall and laboratories.
