Department of Philosophy & Indian Culture

History:

The department of philosophy was started during the year 1966.Earlier it was clubbed with oriental culture in Oriental culture department.

Miss Irene Srinivasan was the first member of the Department. Mrs Bhargavi joined as a second faculty member in 1968. Subsequently she left the department in 1974. Dr.(Mrs).Bhagyaleela joined the department in 1975. The Indian culture department was started during the academic year in 1978-79 under the headship of Miss Irene Srinivasan. The Department was sponsored by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams and students of Indian culture (I.P.S.W) Group are getting fees concession.

Mrs. V.S. Jyothi Kumari joined in the department in 1979 as a faculty member. Miss Irene Srinivasan retired on 1986. Dr.R. Bhagyaleela retired from service on 2001. Y.S..Jyothi kumara retired from service on June -2012. P. Rukminamma retired from service on January -2018. Dr.B. Bharathi joined in the department in 2021 February 22nd.

The department offered two under graduate programmes in Philosophy / Indian culture with the combinations of;

BA Economics, political science, philosophy (EPP)[E/M]
BA Indian culture, Psychology, Social work (IPSW)[E/M]

Presently BA Honours Programme (Philosophy, minor subject )course is offered to students under the affiliation of SV University Tirupathi. At present Dr. B. Bharathi is the Head of the Department single faculty member taking classes to both Indian culture and Philosophy subjects and committed to other duties also.

Nearly 65 students from opted for BA Philosophy and Indian culture subject and the department possessed departmental library with 50 to 70 books . Department is conducting various Knowledge enriching programmes like Student Seminars, Quiz Programme, Group Discussions, Eloctution etc. Every year the Department result exhibits 100% .The students are encouraged to pursue higher education, internships, field visits and projects. Many of our students got selected in various universities for PG programmes.
