About the Department:

The Department is functioning since the inception of the College in 1952. Ms.S Saraswathiwas the HOD. It started with four faculty including two visiting Lecturers from SV Arts College. With the increasing student strength, the Department also grew in size with 12 faculty namely Dr.P.Vatsala Reddy, Mrs. S. VijayaMukta, Mrs. V. Rajarathnam, Mrs. N.Kasturi, Ms.P.SuseelaRao, Mrs. K.Chandralekha, Mrs. R.Bhulakshmi, Mrs.K.C.VilwaKumari, Mrs. J.Sudhabala, Mrs. J. SeshammaVisweswaraiah, Ms. V.Nirmala, Mrs.M.Nagamani and Dr.Sarah Hithavachani. Mrs. N.Sarojini Devi, Ms. PS Lalitha Tripura Sundari and Mrs. K.K.Rajeswari. Now the Department is run by 7 Lecturers including five Regular and two Contract namely Mrs. G.Neeraja (HOD), Mrs. P. Venkata Lakshmi, Dr. K.P.Padmaja, Mrs. K.Nagapadma, Mrs. Ch.Suhasini, and Dr.S.Madhavi, Dr. D.Lakshmi Devi respectively.

Ms. S.Saraswathi was deputed for Higher Studies in Syracuse University, New York as part of Faculty Exchange Programme initiated by Dr.Mrs.K.Rajeswari Murthy, the then Principal. Dr. Ms. P.Vatsala Reddy obtained her Ph.D from Leeds University. Mrs. S. Vijaya Mukta (from 01-10-1998 to 30-11-2001) and Mrs.V. Rajarathnam (from 01-12-2001 to 30-06-2002) discharged their duties as the Principals of the College.

In order to cater to the changing curriculum needs, a Language Lab was established in 2008, Audio Visual Lab in 2015. M.A English (Language and Literature) was offered from 2008-2009 to 2018-2019.

Semester system of Education was introduced in 2015-2016 academic year,followed by Four Year Honours Programme of NEP-2020 from the academic year 2020-2021.Single Major Programme of NEP was implemented from 2023-24 and conferment of Autonomous status in 2024-25. The faculty of the Department of English has actively contributed for NAAC Accreditation by putting in the bestof their abilities in their respective criterion in achieving A+ to the Institution. Implementation of NEP policies and various assignments entrusted by the Management from time to time were taken upas a challenge and executed with dedication and commitment.
