History:

Department of Biotechnology was started during the academic year 2006-07. A new lab was established during 2006. The syllabus is framed by Sri Venkateswara University. Faculty have participated as B.O.S. members, while framing the syllabus. 3 Years B.Sc. programme affiliated to Sri Venkateswara University is offered, under combination B.Sc. (Bt. Z. C) (Biotechnology, Zoology, Chemistry). The classes are commenced effectively from day one during the beginning of the semester and syllabus is completed within term days. For effective translating the curriculum, faculty use advanced teaching methods like power point lectures, animations, virtual labs, etc. Experiments are standardized. Manuals are designed to support the curriculum.

Mission:

  • Creation of basic infrastructure for Biotechnological studies.
  • To train the rural youth in the field of Biotechnology to meet the increasing demand in the state and globally.

Field Visits :

As a part of Eco Club activity visited Rain Water Harvesting-water supply pipe lines to Tirumala at Sreevari Mettu, Chandragiri.

Visited Bio-Fertilizer Preparation Plant RARS Station, S.V. Agricultural University, Tirupati.

As a part of Internship Collobaration with SVIMS visited C-FAR building, SVIMS, Tirupati.

Visited Tummala Gunta, Chandragiri, Thondavada Villages for the purpose of collecting data for community service projects

Seminars/Conferences:

Staff and students participated seminars and conferences at various levels of the country. Students were encouraged to participate activities conducted by APSCHE.

Quiz/Group Discussions:

Quiz and other departmental competitions were conducted on relevant topics.

Extension activities (Biotech Fest)

A science exhibition was conducted on 11-03-2021 in the department of Biotechnology in order to inculcate scientific thoughts in young minds. As a part of this programme a guest lecture was conducted on “ Job opportunities in the field of science and technology” by inviting an eminent professor Dr. V. Kalarani PDF( Canada & USA, CEO, WBIF,DBT-Bionest), Formerly HOD, Department of Biotechnology, SPMVV, Tirupati.

The programme was organized by Dr. C. Bhuvaneswari Devi, HOD, Department of Biotechnology SPWDC, Tirupati. The students exhibited models and charts related to the various fields of Biotechnology like PCR Cycle, Cell organelles, DNA Finger printing , Bioremediation, Steps in gene cloning. The students also performed demonstrations on models like corona vaccine development and sugar analysis by glucometer. The models were kept safe for the NAAC peer visit in the month of May 2021 and peer members visited the lab and appreciated the student activity related to science exhibition.
